What about parent-only Psychology sessions?

While we often work with parents for the purposes of supporting their child’s needs, Medicare will not permit parents to claim for these sessions under their child’s plan. Therefore, if the recommended intervention includes some sessions with parents only, you will require a separate Mental Health Treatment Plan in the name of one of the attending parents, if that is deemed appropriate for your circumstances by your GP, Paediatrician or Psychiatrist.

Because our initial consultations are with parents only, if you wish to claim a rebate you will need to provide a Mental Health Treatment Plan in one of the parent’s names prior to your appointment. However, please understand that it is up to your GP, Paediatrician or Psychiatrist to first assess and determine whether or not such a plan is appropriate for your circumstances as parents.
