Annie's Centre Children's Books(NOW AVAILABLE!)

Wally The Worried Wallaby in “DOG-GONE TROUBLE!”

Wally The Worried Wallaby in
“DOG-GONE TROUBLE!”

The focus of the book is on anxiety.  Join Wally, Carli, the Confident Koala and Neffy, the dog, as they overcome Wally’s worries.  Children will love the cartoon-like illustrations!
The book aims to teach anxious children and their parents some skills to manage their worries.  It also aims to teach parents how to prevent anxiety from developing in their children.

Parents don’t miss out!

Dr Anne Chalfant has written a separate Parent Guide to accompany Wally’s story.
The guide includes 10 activities for parents to complete with their child to teach bravery and resilience and to conquer fears and worries.
“The value of the book is that it combines clinical expertise and evidence based strategies with a fun and easy to read story-line.” (Dr Anne Chalfant, Director Annie’s Centre).

The book and the parent guide are available from Annie’s Centre for $25.00 + Postage and Handling.

Sensory Processing: A Guide for Parents and Professionals

Dr Annie and our Paediatric Occupational Therapist, Sheree Tyrrell have put together this manual for parents and professionals

All of us process information using our senses. However, some children have difficulty making sense of that information and knowing how to respond to it. Consequently, these children usually experience some of the following difficulties:

  • Poor concentration
  • Poor co ordination
  • Restlessness
  • Fidgeting
  • Avoiding certain tastes or textures
  • Resistance to changes in their routine
  • Exaggerated emotional responses

Using our Sensory Processing Guide, you will be able to:

  • Determine what kind of sensory processing difficulties your child might have
  • Understand why your child experiences these difficulties
  • Work out whether your child has a low or high tolerance for sensory information
  • Develop appropriate activities and exercises to use with your child to address their sensory processing difficulties

Please contact us to register you interest in purchasing our Sensory Processing Guide for Parents and Professionals.

Anxiety Treatment Program for Children with Autism

Annie's Centre, in conjunction with Macquarie University and Aspect (Autism Spectrum Australia), will be publishing the FIRST, Anxiety Treatment Program for Children with High Functioning Autism and Asperger's! This publication will be the first of its kind both in Australia and internationally! The program is based on research that Dr Chalfant conducted and published internationally in the Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders.

The program is designed for use by clinicians and therapists. You will be able to use the program for either individual support or group intervention programs with children. A comprehensive clinician's manual will be provided. Separate handbooks for children and parents will also be provided. The handbooks will include copies of handouts, homework tasks and related visual supports and materials.

The focus of the program is on children with Autism who have low support needs. However, components of the program can be easily adapted to those children who have high support needs or more moderate Autism. Please contact us to register you interest in accessing the programs or in accessing anxiety support for your child at our centre.
