Autism Spectrum Disorder One-Week Clinics
Diagnostic assessments
One-week block of diagnostic assessments for children aged 18 months and onward suspected of having an Autism Spectrum Disorder
This involves spending one week in the area to complete 1-2 assessments per day
Assessments include immediate feedback to families about the child's diagnosis and recommendations for intervention and ongoing support
Detailed reports are mailed to families and/or other relevant professionals within 10 days after the assessment
Assessments occur either at the child's pre-school or school, at a health centre or within the conference/meeting room facilities of a local hotel/motel
All assessments involve the use of the two major diagnostic assessment tools for Autism: the Autism Diagnostic Interview (ADI-R) and the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS). In scientific literature these are regarded as the "gold standard" diagnostic assessment tools
Assessments may also include (at extra cost) cognitive assessments (i.e., IQ assessments), adaptive behaviour and developmental assessments
Pre-school/School-based consultations
One-week block of consultations
These involve observations of the child in the classroom and on the playground. A meeting/case conference is then held at the child's school with the parents and the teaching professionals. Strategies and priorities for intervention and ongoing support are discussed.
